Neuse Regional WASA Groundbreaking and Ceremony - April 21, 2006

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Neuse Regional WASA's $138.7 million water treatment plant and distribution system was held on April 21, 2006 to coincide with Earth Day.  CDM designed the $58 million plant to combine the use of surface water from the Neuse River and the use of groundwater to cost-effectively optimize resources in the region.  The plant will be operational in fall 2008 and will provide a reliable water supply source for approximately 100,000 customers.  Another consultant designed the distribution system.

Also of note, the water treatment plant and distribution system is the largest USDA Rural Development-funded water project in the nation to date.  Congressman Walter Jones and David Rouzer, USDA Acting Director for Legislative and Public Affairs, were on hand to sign the USDA check worth $95.5 million.  They were also keynote speakers at the groundbreaking ceremony.
